“Iowa Talking Points” broke new ground last Friday with its first remote telecast. The broadcast was produced for live video stream, video, audio-on-demand playback, and radio rebroadcast by News/Talk 1540 KXEL and Mudd Advertising.
Jeff Stein, the program director and News/Talk 1540 KXEL host, hosted the telecast. Based in Iowa City, the event aired before the formal event and exceeded its anticipated 90-minute time slot.
Seven presidential candidates, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, Amb. Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott, Gov. Doug Burgum, Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and Ryan Binkley, took turns speaking.
“There are very few opportunities to have access to this many candidates at one time,” Stein said in a press release obtained by Barrett News Media. “Engaging with them in this way gives our audience the best information free from sound bites and media filters.”
The program included interviews with Iowa’s U.S. Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, State Attorney General Brenna Bird, and event host Rep. Miller-Meeks.
“While this was the team’s first live remote, with the number of additional events coming up before the Jan. 15 Iowa caucus, I’m sure we’ll take advantage of similar opportunities as they come up,” Stein said.
