The wins keep coming for the NFL and their broadcast partners, as Peacock announced the viewership numbers for the Christmas Eve primetime game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers.
9.9 million people tuned into the streaming-exclusive contest, with a peak of 8.3 million during Peacock’s commercial-free fourth quarter. While the figures pale in comparison to the 31.5 million viewers who tuned in for Cowboys at Dolphins, it was good enough to win the evening. In local markets, NBC stations in Los Angeles and Buffalo, and NFL+, Saturday night’s game averaged 7.2 million viewers based on figures provided by Nielsen.
“Peacock and NBC Sports successfully delivered the streaming service’s first-ever exclusive NFL game with the innovative commercial-free fourth quarter,” said NBC Sports President Rick Cordella. “Winning the night in primetime is a strong sign heading into our upcoming Peacock exclusive NFL Wild Card playoff game on Jan. 13.”
The streaming service will exclusively air a primetime playoff game on Saturday, Jan. 13, and will be the third game NBC will broadcast, a first for NFL Playoff games. There’s been no word yet as to which conference will receive the playoff game, nor the broadcast team calling the game.
