CBS News correspondent and Fox News contributor Bernard Goldberg is taking issue with Fox News’ decision to host a town hall with Donald Trump during the Republican Presidential Primary debate on CNN.
Fox News will host the event on January 10 from 9 to 10 PM ET, with Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum co-moderating the event. Nonetheless, Goldberg states that the network’s decision was ratings-driven and not from a journalistic perspective.
“The issue isn’t whether it’s good political strategy for Trump,” Goldberg said on X while responding to a user. “It is. The issue is whether the journalism wing of Fox (the commentary side is beyond hope) should be catering to that political strategy.
“Again, hosting a Trump town hall isn’t the problem. Caving to Trump’s demand to hold/air it at the exact same time as a televised debate between his primary opponents (who he refuses to debate) to accommodate him politically is the issue. An example of ratings > journalism.”
CNN will be hosting the Republican Presidential Primary debate, which will feature challengers Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley (SC).
