Ali Velshi: Tucker Carlson Wrong For Saying Media Won’t Criticize Ukraine

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson was recently in Russia, with reports suggesting he interviewed President Vladimir Putin. Carlson’s interview request to be given the green light was due to his not-one-sided views on the Russia-Ukraine war.

Carlson has been critical of Ukraine in the past, but MSNBC’s Ali Velshi argues that plenty of news outlets have criticized the country, such as its past corruption and how it will fix the issue once the war is over.

“[Carlson] talked before the war came out about how we shouldn’t be in bed with Ukraine because he called it a ‘Corrupt little country,'” Velshi said on Wednesday’s edition of Alex Wagner Tonight. “Ukraine had a corruption problem. There’s no problem and no question. And when it emerges from this war, they’ll have to fix that because they’ll be under the watchful eye of the rest of the world. It’s not a reason for getting invaded.

“Yeah, you know, one of the things Tucker said is American journalists will not hold Volodymyr Zelenskyy to account. Like, I don’t know what you’re talking about, man. I mean, we cover that war. There are things Ukrainians do that are not fantastic, and we discuss it with them at all times. But they are a country that has been invaded by another country.”

Tucker Carlson and his trip to Russia have been a significant talking point in the news media over the last few days. MSNBC’s Jen Psaki stated that this is his way of staying relevant. Meanwhile, NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo notes that Carlson is cheapening the standard of journalism.
