Christiane Amanpour: ‘Absurd’ For Tucker Carlson to Say He’s Alone in Asking for Putin Interview

On Tuesday, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson stated that he traveled to Russia because no journalist in the United States or the Western media has asked to interview President Vladimir Putin.

However, CNN’s chief international anchor, Christiane Amanpour, pushed back at Carlson’s claim that no Western media outlet or journalist has requested to interview Putin. Amanpour notes that these requests have been submitted countless times.

“Does Tucker really think we journalists haven’t been trying to interview President Putin every day since his full-scale invasion of Ukraine?” Amanpour wrote on X. “It’s absurd — we’ll continue to ask for an interview, just as we have for years now.”

Carlson’s interview request was given the green light due to his not-one-sided views on the Russia-Ukraine war. His trip has been a talking point for news media outlets, and as a result, his claims regarding how the media covers Russia have been highlighted.

MSNBC’s Ali Velshi joined Amanpour in debunking one of Carlson’s claims in the Russia-Ukraine war. Velshi stated that the Western media doesn’t hold Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accountable. Nonetheless, Velshi noted that when it’s time to criticize Ukraine, the press does so.
