Much was made about the fallout between Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. Bayless has since retooled Undisputed while Sharpe has joined the cast of First Take and cemented his position as a game changer by joining The Volume and building Club Shay Shay and Night Cap.
But one thing was learned on media row last week about Sharpe’s exit from Undisputed. It came from Stephen A. Smith who sated that he knew Shannon was done before he knew it himself.
During an appearance on Cam Newton’s show, Stephen A. praised Newton for asking a question nobody had asked him yet. Newton inquired on when Smith learned Sharpe was available. Stephen A. responded by making some news.
“Shannon didn’t even know he was unavailable before I did,’ said Smith. “If you remember, him and Skip got into it over Dak. Shannon sort of lost it. He was cool from that point forward but then the whole thing with Damar Hamlin came down and he was off the air that day. He then came back on the air and was trying to say something and Skip wouldn’t let him finish his monologue. When I saw that, I called him and said ‘it’s over’.
Sharpe responded to Smith with confusion, which led to Stephen A. explaining that he wouldn’t be back on the show. Smith said “this ain’t no insider information. I know that man. There is no way that that happened and you’ll be back.”
Stephen A. concluded by informing Sharpe “when it happens, not if, I’ve got you.” Sharpe would of course exit Undisputed and join the First Take crew in September 2023.
