Mark Simone: ABC News, George Stephanopoulos Should Want to Settle Trump Lawsuit

Donald Trump has launched a defamation lawsuit against ABC News and George Stephanopoulos. 710 WOR host Mark Simone believes it’s an easy win for the Trump campaign.

After a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), Trump sued the outlet and anchor for his encapsulation that the former President was guilty of rape. Stephanopoulos repeatedly asked Mace — a rape survivor — how she could continue to support Trump after he was found liable for rape by a civil jury. The representative continually shared that she felt the anchor was attempting to “shame” her for her political beliefs, which Stephanopoulos denied.

On The Mark Simone Show Tuesday, the New York host argued it would be in the best interest of the outlet and anchor to settle the case, sharing his belief that it’s a slam dunk for Trump.

“This will not be good for George Stephanopoulos. A lawsuit like this? Stuff will come out,” said Simone. “If you’re ABC or Stephanopoulos, you’d want to make this go away really fast. The problem is, if you’re the insurance company and you see that malice will be easy to prove, you might want to settle this real fast.

“But ABC will not want to settle so fast. That makes him look kind of guilty. You could issue an apology. That’s a tough thing for a guy like Stephanopoulos to do. I don’t know if you’ll possibly issue an apology, if that’s even going to help. You could offer a retraction, all that sort of stuff. I don’t know. We’ll see. This is big news.”

Simone argued that Stephanopoulos “has a history of going after rape victims,” during his tenure working for the Bill Clinton campaign and administration.

“People forget he was involved in some pretty dirty business when he worked with the Clintons, fighting off those rape allegations,” Simone said, alleging that the ABC News anchor wouldn’t want some of the details of his work for the White House to come out today.
