CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy has left the company after publishing a final Reliable Sources newsletter Wednesday.
On Thursday morning, Darcy revealed a new newsletter endeavor called “Status”, which he labeled a “new, definitive nightly briefing that informs readers about what is really happening in the corridors of media power.”
The newsletter — which will be published on a Sunday-Thursday schedule — has subscription tiers. Free subscribers will only receive the Sunday edition. Meanwhile, monthly subscribers will pay $14.95 while “Founders Club” members can pay $595 for an annual subscription that includes “invitations to founders-only quarterly Zoom calls” and other unannounced events.
In his final edition of Reliable Sources, the lead story from Oliver Darcy was the financial struggles of Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN. He argued the stock price for the company reached a “dangerous new low” in after-hours trading after it revealed a $9.1 billion write-down of its cable TV properties.
Reliable Sources has been a staple at CNN for over three decades. Originally a Sunday morning program, the show was canceled last year under the direction of Chris Licht, leading to the exit of former host Brian Stelter, who worked the media beat with Darcy. Stelter launched a newsletter when the network was under the purview of Jeff Zucker, which Darcy continued after the former’s high-profile departure.
In his final CNN newsletter, Oliver Darcy did not allude to his impending departure. His new newsletter hit inboxes at 8 AM ET Thursday morning.
