Telemundo Jumps on Chiefs Bandwagon with Two-Part Docuseries

‘Viva Chiefs Kingdom’ to premiere December 8 before Taylor Swift's favorite team plays the Chargers on Universo

Telemundo, NBCUniversal’s Spanish-language network, is looking to capitalize on the popularity of the NFL Champion Kansas City Chiefs with a two-part documentary called Viva Chiefs Kingdom.

The documentary is set to premiere December 8, just before sister network Universo airs the Chiefs’ primetime game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Chiefs games have been drawing huge ratings this season, boosted by fans of singer Taylor Swift, whose relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is being relentlessly chronicled. Even the Hallmark Channel has gotten into the act with a TV movie Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story. Kelce’s mother Donna appears in the film, along with several of Kelce’s teammates and Kansas City head coach Andy Reid.

The docuseries follows 12 Chiefs fans in Mexico as they followed the team during the 2023 season. The network says the Chiefs’ Mexican fans have a deep bond with the team. It’s not always easy and even finding Chiefs merchandise can be a challenge south of the border.

The Chiefs were involved in producing Viva Chiefs Kingdom. The docuseries is the team’s first foray into long-form Spanish-language content.

The Chiefs-Chargers game on Universo will be narrated by sports anchor Miguel Gurwitz and analysis from former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Rolando Cantú and sideline reporting from Ariana Figuera.

The Chiefs-Chargers game will also air on NBC’s Sunday Night Football in prime time.
