The primary radio and television broadcasters for the Giants have all inked new multiyear contracts with the team this offseason, continuing their tenures on the airwaves documenting the action. Giants president and chief executive officer Larry Baer confirmed the news to Alex Simon of SFGATE earlier in the week, which will continue seeing Dave Flemming and Jon Miller on radio and Mike Krukow with Duane Kuiper on television. It is currently unknown how all of these deals last, but Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Krukow and Kuiper signed two-year contracts.
One particular aspect of Krukow’s deal is the ability to shift on the KNBR radio broadcast team for select games. Krukow, who suffers from inclusion body myositis, is unable to make road trips with the team, but he will now be able to call 23 away games in addition to the 81 home games emanating from Oracle Park. Krukow is expected to broadcast the road games from the NBC Sports Bay Area studios while Kuiper works on site. The broadcasters have been calling games for the team spanning over two decades, including when the team won three World Series championships in a span of six seasons.
The Giants recently joined the growing list of MLB teams to offer direct-to-consumer functionalities to access live game broadcasts amid the announcement of Peacock implementing in-market streaming of the NBC Sports regional networks. Consumers utilizing the Premium or Premium Plus plans on the service can view programming on NBC Sports Bay Area through an add-on subscription priced at $17.95 per month. NBC Sports Bay Area also includes live game broadcasts for the Golden State Warriors, Bay FC, the Santa Cruz Warriors and San Jose State University football and basketball.
The radio and television broadcasters for the Giants have a combined 118 years of experience and have also been recognized for their work as the winners of several awards within the sports media industry. Kuiper is the longest-tenured broadcaster for the team as he prepares to commence his 32nd season behind the microphone for the organization, while Miller is second on the list as he moves into his 29th season in the booth.
