With game six between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks scheduled for this evening at Madison Square Garden, Evan & Tiki producer Tommy Lugauer caused a stir within the walls of WFAN in New York. This came after a social post following game five, where Boston kept their playoff hopes alive. In a video posted to his personal social channel, Lugauer spent nearly three minutes calling Evan Roberts, the co-host of the show Lugauer produces, a list of profane names for his actions at the TD Garden during game five. Consequently, this caught the attention of fellow WFAN host Boomer Esiason, who discussed the video and what he would do to discipline Lugauer for his actions against a host of the show he produces on WFAN.
Esiason discussed the incident during Friday’s Boomer and Gio morning program with co-host Gregg Giannotti and further explained why he felt Lugauer’s actions wouldn’t be tolerated if he were part of the morning show staff.
“If one of you guys did that to me, you’d be looking for another job,” stated Esiason. “We’re all teammates. We do bust each other’s chops now and then, but that is crossing the line. The whole thing crosses the line. I just think that right now that super talented Tommy Lugauer needs to be put in his place. Otherwise, he should be suspended for at least a week with no pay.”
Moreover, Giannotti mentioned during the discussion that WFAN program director Ryan Hurley discussed the incident with the morning show, asking what they would do regarding the situation. While the morning show co-host said any actions toward Lugauer are “above my pay grade,” Esiason was overly insistent that something must be done to discipline the WFAN producer for what he posted on social media.
“If it were me, I’d put Tommy on blast (suspension) for about two weeks to figure out what kind of person you want to be,” said Esiason.
However, Giannotti believed that all the blame can’t be placed solely on Lugauer. Instead, Roberts himself has to shoulder some responsibility.
“Evan’s got to take a hit on this as well,” noted Giannotti. “What you’re saying about how I would fire one of you guys, there’s no fear there (in afternoons), because no one respects him. So part of that’s got to be on him.”
Eventually, the video was discussed on Evan & Tiki during Thursday’s program, where Roberts said all is forgiven if an apology was given. As a result, Lugauer did apologize to Roberts on WFAN.
