Wing Bowl Makes Its Return This February In Las Vegas

"The promotion originally began in 1993 as a supplement for Philadelphia sports fans since the Eagles had never won a Super Bowl"

Date:

One of the more legendary radio promotions of all time is making a return in February. For the first time in eight years, the Wing Bowl will be making its return for the first time since February of 2018 in Las Vegas, NV. This will mark the first time the iconic radio promotion of 94 WIP will be holding an event outside the city limits of Philadelphia, PA.

Previously, former WIP host Angelo Cataldi announced in October of 2018 that station management decided to end the Wing Bowl since the Philadelphia Eagles had secured their first Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl LII. The promotion originally began in 1993 as a supplement for Philadelphia sports fans since the Eagles had never won a Super Bowl.

The annual wing eating competition began in 1993, which saw 150 people in attendance witnessing two competitors eating as many chicken wings as they could in an allotted amount of time. Over the years, the event steadily grew in both size and popularity, culminating in its final event in 2018. That year, over 20,000 people packed the Wells Fargo Center to witness Molly Schuyler earn the title of Wing Bowl Champion by eating 501 wings in 30 minutes.

Now, according to the event’s website, the next Wing Bowl is slated to be held on February 7, 2026, at the Plaza Hotel & Casino Showroom in front of a live audience. During the event, 20 competitors will battle it out in three rounds of wing eating time trials. Furthermore, a release on the event states that the competition will feature both amateur and professional competitive eaters. Qualifiers are scheduled to begin next week in Las Vegas, with additional qualifying rounds set to take place in Philadelphia.

Additionally, the event will be live streamed online, with cash prizes totaling $5,000 up for grabs. Mike Davis of FOX 5 Las Vegas will serve as the play-by-play announcer on the broadcast.

As of now, Audacy currently owns the trademark for the term “Wing Bowl.” However, regarding any official participation from 94 WIP in the event, station management has not responded to Barrett Media.
