Donahue originally joined KYW as a reporter in 1974. He then ascended to the role of anchor in 1979. That marked the start of a 35-year career as a morning drive and sports anchor in the city.

In addition to his time anchoring on KYW Newsradio, Harry Donahue also worked as a radio play-by-play voice in the city, calling games for the USFL’s Philadelphia Stars during their existence, and for Temple University football and basketball broadcasts for more than two decades.

“We’re deeply saddened by the passing of longtime Voice of the Owls, Harry Donahue,” Temple said in a post on social media. “A Philadelphia broadcasting legend, his Temple career spanned five decades, bringing the passion and pride of Temple Athletics to fans across the city and beyond.

“Our love and thoughts go out to the Donahue family and the Owl community.”

He also worked for NFL Films and broadcast Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia 76ers, and Atlantic 10 basketball games during his career.

Donahue retired from KYW Newsradio in 2014. He was inducted into the station’s Hall of Fame upon his retirement. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 2000.
