Michele Tafoya Announces Bid for Minnesota Senate Seat

"I’m running for U.S. Senate to bring that experience to Washington and deliver the real results Minnesota deserves."

After publicly admitting she had toyed with the idea of running for the Senate, Michele Tafoya has announced she indeed will seek the office from her home state of Minnesota.

On Wednesday morning, Tafoya shared that she is launching her campaign for the seat. Sen. Tina Smith (D) is not seeking re-election.

Tafoya — who spent decades working in media on the national stage as an NFL sideline reporter in addition to her work at 830 WCCO, among other Twin Cities endeavors — joins a Republican candidate pool featuring former Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze, former Republican Party of Minnesota chair David Hann, former U.S. Navy officer Tom Weiler, and former NBA player Royce White, who lost a 2024 U.S. Senate race to incumbent Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D).

In a post on social media announcing her plans to enter the race, Tafoya shared her reasoning for deciding to ultimately join the field.

“For years, I walked the sidelines when the stakes were the highest, and that job taught me how leadership really works,” said Tafoya. “I’m running for U.S. Senate to bring that experience to Washington and deliver the real results Minnesota deserves.”

In recent years, Michele Tafoya has hosted a podcast with Salem Podcast Network dedicated to conservative political commentary. The program is in the top 0.5% of podcast listeners globally, according to Listen Notes.

Following her annoucement, many conservative media members took to social media to share their support for Tafoya seeking the office and to back her candidacy.
