According to a report from CBSSports.com college football writer Dennis Dodds, the Pac-12 has sent a “robust” proposal to Amazon Prime Video and ESPN for it’s next media rights package.
The Pac-12 would likely finalize a deal with the two partners “by the beginning of 2023”, according to sources referenced by Dodds.
The conference is seeking a deal that would be close to the $380 million per year garnered by the Big 12 after it extended a deal with FOX Sports and ESPN. After the departure of USC and UCLA to the Big Ten, the Pac-12 will only feature 10 schools, will the Big 12 will have 14 schools once it completes its addition of BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF.
The report from Dodds adds that the hang up for college coaches and administrators by partnering with Amazon Prime Video is not about money but about visibility. Although Amazon Prime Video claims to have more than 200 million subscribers, those in college athletics are hesitant to place a significant portion of its package on the streaming platform.
