Howie Carr: We’re Undergoing ‘Total Sea Change’ in Media

Date:

As the media landscape continues to change, radio host Howie Carr is noting the drastic changes in the way people consume media.

During The Howie Carr Show Monday, the Boston-based host noted a recent uptick in cord-cutting by cable TV subscribers and added that he isn’t sad to see the changes because — in his view — companies like Disney will be damaged by the changes in the way consumers watch television.

He noted that when The Brady Bunch was canceled, it averaged between 27 and 30 million viewers per episode, which nothing comes close to now.

“It’s really a total sea change,” Carr said. “Now, if you get 3 or 4 million people did, like Tucker Carlson did, it was the number one cable show on all the networks. The broadcast networks don’t get that many more.”

He continued by saying he hasn’t come in contact with anyone who has regretted the way things have shifted.

“I’ve never heard anybody say ‘I’m really sorry I got rid of cable TV. I’m really sorry I’m saving $100-$200 by not watching all these crappy channels’,” Carr said. “There’s no need for it.”
