It’s been nine years since Tim McCarver last called a Major League Baseball game on national television. But after a six-year stint calling St. Louis Cardinals games before taking a break because of the COVID-19 pandemic, McCarver has decided to officially retire from broadcasting.
McCarver was the color commentator alongside Joe Buck for 18 years at Fox, calling that entire stretch of World Series for the network since 1996.
“I enjoyed it very much,” McCarver told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “It was special.”
McCarver’s broadcasting career spans more than four decades. He got his start with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980 after retiring from baseball as a player.
“I think I’m happy about it,” Tim McCarver said about broadcast retirement. “I think that’s the best.”
“You are the best. I love you, I love you like a brother,” Buck said at the end of the 2013 World Series, signaling McCarver’s departure from Fox. “I love you like a best friend. Thanks for all that you’ve brought into my life both inside a booth and outside a booth.”
