The Vice President, Sports Production NBA & WNBA Studio is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the NBA & WNBA studio portfolio ensuring the delivery of high-quality content for the network. They will also be responsible for the oversight of all NBA and WNBA studio remote productions, such as the NBA Draft.

The Vice President will be responsible for leading various teams in each area including talent, production, operations, and content creators. They will be responsible for managing their staff, logistical planning, and oversight. This role will involve driving the content strategy for assigned properties, maintaining proficiencies on the latest production trends and technologies, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to expand audience reach and revenue opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage an expansive team of talent, production, and technical personnel by providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the successful execution of content on the NBA & WNBA studio shows as assigned.
  • Oversee the overall production content strategy, including resources and budgets across all assigned shows.
  • Coordinate with Coordinating Producer and management team to align on content, resources and budget strategy for all NBA and WNBA programming.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing and Programming to maximize network/program’s revenue potential.
  • Makes or reviews the decisions of subordinates regarding the full scope of creative, content, production, and cost / benefit decisions.
  • Sets the talent strategy and assignments for NBA & WNBA studio shows as assigned.
  • Collaborates with the NBA & WNBA Sports Production & Programming leadership teams on the content strategy for NBA & WNBA.
  • Oversee the overall production content strategy, including talent assignments, Production resources, and budgets for NBA & WNBA studio shows.
  • Collaborates with the NBA & WNBA Sports Production & Programming leadership teams for all on-site site NBA & WNBA studio shows.
  • Creates and enhances relationships with important information sources and related third parties, e.g., talent, league and conference officials, athletes
  • Creates and enhances relationships with the executives of ESPN functions that are “matrixed” to support the production of sports news programs and programming, e.g., Operations; Creative Studios; Programming Integration
  • Travels for on-site studio shows to support the production team and maximize relationships with the NBA & WNBA leagues, teams, etc.
  • Plays an integral role as a leader in department and supports company priorities through their leadership on departmental needs.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large teams and complex projects, with experience in staffing, budgetary planning, and logistical oversight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset, capable of identifying opportunities for growth and driving initiatives to achieve business objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the management and execution of live events
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the management and execution of live studio productions on location.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively complex-related studio and remote studio on location production experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Has a good understanding of ESPN’s market positioning and strategies.
  • Has a high-level knowledge of college sports and college sports history.
  • Has extensive knowledge of the NBA and WNBA.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
