Dave Tepper, program director for Gow Media’s KFNC (97.5 FM) and KGOW (1560 AM) and co-host of KFNC’s midday talk show, will leave the company next week to become operations manager for a station group in Omaha, Neb.
Tepper, 38, said he will oversee operations at NRG Media’s two sports talk stations, KOZN (1620 AM) and KZOT (1180 AM), news talk KOIL (1290 AM) and Spanish music station KMMQ (1020 AM). KOZN produces the College World Series for the Westwood One network.tepper
“I’ve had a great run with an incredible programming team in an incredible sports radio market,” Tepper said. “It’s tough to move on, but that time has come. I like coaching talent and creating an environment for people to be at their best, and I will focus on that.”
Tepper began his radio career in Los Angeles while working as a standup comic and also worked in Austin before he came to Houston as a producer at KBME (790 AM). He joined KFNC in 2007 with that station’s conversion to sports and became program director in 2008.
He also co-hosted talk shows at KFNC with former Rockets star Calvin Murphy, Carl Dukes, Julie Takahashi and Chronicle columnist Jerome Solomon and was paired earlier this year with former NFL quarterback Sean Salisbury.
Station owner David Gow said no decision has been made on who will replace Tepper on the KFNC midday show. His final day on the air will be Friday.
“He has been a big contributor to the stations for a long time and has made contributions both as a program director and on-air talent,” Gow said. “We hold him in great regard and look forward to following his success in his next steps.”
