As part of a new emphasis at ESPN 980 to promote the station’s biggest personalities, former Redskins tight end Chris Cooley will be featured in a commercial for “The Drive With Cooley and Czabe” that will air during Redskins preseason games.
“He’s getting you so close to Redskins football that he forgets he’s just a radio host now and no longer plays tight end for the team,” the voiceover artist in the 30-second spot says as Cooley applies eye black, watches film, lifts weights and catches a pass with one hand while holding a microphone in his other hand.
Cooley, who has provided weekly film breakdowns on “The Drive” of every Redskins starter’s performance for each of the last two seasons, has talked recently about making a return to the NFL.
In July, ESPN 980 announced that former Redskins running back Clinton Portis will serve as an analyst for the station during the season.
The Redskins begin their preseason schedule on Thursday at Cleveland. All four Redskins preseason games will be broadcast locally on NBC 4 and Comcast SportsNet.
