The WEEI brand has long been synonymous with rigorous coverage of New England sports and massive reach through its regional radio network and highly trafficked Web site, WEEI.com. A decade ago, WEEI pioneered the integration of analog and digital distribution channels driven by opinionated personalities that today reach more than 2 million sports-hungry consumers every month. Now, in its first foray into custom podcasting, WEEI is leading the convergence of broadcast talent and on-demand audio.
“Enough About Me” is the new podcast hosted by WEEI morning personality Kirk Minihane. Launched on Thursday morning, February 11th, at 10:00AM, “Enough About Me” soared to Number 1 on the iTunes chart in the Sports & Rec category by 2:00PM that same day passing established, multi-media podcasters like Bill Simmons, Mike & Mike, Colin Cowherd, Dan Patrick and hundreds more. More significantly, propelled by WEEI’s colossal on-air and on-line promotional engine, Enough About Me” crashed the Top-20 of all audio podcasts on the iTunes chart on its very first day of release.
Phil Zachary is VP/Market Manager for Entercom Boston, WEEI’s parent company. “The successful launch of ‘Enough About Me’ validates the natural rapport that can flourish when a major on-air talent plies his craft in real-time, then invites listeners to explore a different facet of his personality in an on-demand environment,” he said. “We have been deliberately patient in debuting our first, major podcast release, and these encouraging metrics reveal Kirk Minihane to have enormous national appeal across all distribution channels.” Produced by WEEI’s Ben Kichen, the “Enough About Me” podcast was accessed more than 40,000 times in the first 24 hours.
