Detroit radio mainstays “Drew and Mike” have announced plans to reunite for a daily podcast that launches nearly three years after the popular duo had their epic run on WRIF 101.1 FM end.
Drew Lane told FOX 2’s M.L. Elrick that he and Mike Clark have been working on developing the new show and plan to create it from inside a brand new studio that is being built in Lane’s basement.
In recent years Clark has laid low while Lane occupied mornings on WCSX 94.7 FM before moving to Greater Media to host afternoons on Detroit Sports 105.1 FM. Lane left 105.1 last year following a dispute over the show’s creative structure. Matt Dery and Drew Sharpe were brought in to replace him, but their program was dropped in less than six months.
Lane says he will anchor the show four to five days a week, and include Clark two times per week. Other guest hosts are expected to appear as well.
“This is the right thing for both of us right now,” Drew says. “We still have a lot to say and, hopefully, people that want to hear it. Podcasting gives us a lot of freedom schedule-wise and it frees us from another pain in the ass: The FCC. No restrictions, self-imposed or otherwise on topics or language. This is very intoxicating and should give the show an edge that maybe we lost along the way between Janet Jackson and potential fines of 300,000 bucks hanging over our heads.”
