Dave Hooker has been hired as the new co-host of SportTalk on Talk Radio 102.3 WGOW FM. Interim program director Bill Lockhart made the announcement on Monday. Hooker will join Scott McMahen (Quake) and Joe Varner (Cowboy) on the long-running Sports show.
“It’s rare to find someone of Dave’s talent that perfectly meshes with the existing on-air chemistry of the show. Tennessee and SEC athletics are key components of SportTalk and Dave will add a fresh new dimension a show that’s been an Afternoon Destination for Chattanooga listeners for more than 27 years, said Lockhart. Dave’s knowledge, contacts, plus his radio, print, and digital experience will usher in a new era in Chattanooga radio.”
The co-host position became available due to the untimely passing of Gary Haskew (Doctor Basketball) on July 4th. “Dr. B was an Icon. A Character with Character. Gary Haskew will never be replaced” said Lockhart. “Today, WGOW honors the incredible legacy of Gary Haskew while looking to the future of SportTalk. We feel Dave Hooker will cement the long term success of the show.”
Hooker’s first day on SportTalk will be Monday, August 29th.
