The annual tradition of presenting the Marconi Awards at the NAB radio show continued, and in the category of sports station of the year, there were five very deserving candidates. The stations in contention were KNBR in San Francisco, 670 The Score in Chicago, 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit, 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh and 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.
Although all five brands have enjoyed tremendous success, there could only be one winner of this year’s award. That honor was given to 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit. A huge congratulations to Debbie Kenyon, Jimmy Powers and the entire Ticket staff on a tremendous honor.
There were a few other categories which sports radio stations and personalities were recognized.
Toucher and Rich of 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston earned the Marconi Award for Major Market Personality of the Year. Mike Francesa of WFAN in New York was also up for consideration. Congrats to Mike Thomas and his morning show on the well deserved honor.
Dan Patrick and Jay Mohr of FOX Sports Radio were nominated for Network Personality of the Year. That award though went to Delilah.
And finally, New York sports radio station WFAN was nominated for Major Market Station of the Year. That honor was given to Philadelphia radio station 101.1 More FM.
