Former Titans Tight End Frank Wycheck is taking a year off from Titans game day radio broadcasts. The NFL veteran and morning host on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville says he plans to return for the 2018 season, but a year away has been recommended.
Stepping in this season in Wycheck’s absence will be former Titans assistant coach Dave McGinnis.
Wycheck, has battled concussion issues following retirement. He suffers regularly from migraines, memory loss and depression, and was forced to miss one game broadcast last season because of it. During his playing career, the former Titan estimates he received 15-25 concussions. He’s also endured a few more since retiring.
“After multiple discussions with Frank (Wycheck), it was agreed that he will take this season off from the radio broadcasts and return next season,” the Titans said in a statement. “With the season quickly approaching, we have reached an agreement with Dave McGinnis to fill-in for Frank this season. Coach Mac has a deep knowledge and passion for the game, along with eight years as a coach with the Titans. He is very excited about taking on this role and we think he will fill in admirably.”
