Jon Sciambi Being Considered For Sunday Night Baseball

According to a report by the Sporting News’ Michael McCarthy, ESPN announcer Jon Sciambi has moved forward as the leading candidate to become the network’s play-by-play announcer for “Sunday Night Baseball.”

Since Dan Shulman announced his decision to step down as play-by-play announcer of ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball,” Karl Ravech had been considered the lead candidate to fill the void.  Ravech, the anchor of “Baseball Tonight” since 1995, signed a contract extension in June to remain with ESPN. Ravech took over for Chris Berman to host the Home Run Derby last season and has been a play-by-play voice for ESPN since 2013.

After tenures calling games for the Florida Marlins from 1997 to 2004 followed by the Atlanta Braves, Sciambi joined ESPN full-time in 2014. The radio voice for “Sunday Night Baseball,” Sciambi has also held play-by-play duties for ESPN’s “Wednesday Night Baseball” since 2014. A New York native Sciambi, is nicknamed “Boog” for his resemblance to former Baltimore Oriole Boog Powell.

The only thing certain regarding the “Sunday Night Baseball” booth is that Jessica Mendoza will return for her third season, second full season. ESPN has not confirmed whether or not a second analyst will be added to replace Aaron Boone, but they have hinted at a continued three-person booth.
