According to The Big Lead, Robert Flores will replace Matt Vasgersian as host of MLB Central on MLB Network. Sources provided the information to The Big Lead, but MLB Network declined to confirm or comment.
Vasgersian, who joined MLB Central for its launch on April 6th 2015, will now serve as the play-by-play announcer for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball broadcast, partnering with analysts Alex Rodriguez and Jessica Mendoza. Vasgersian will continue to contribute to MLB Network during the season, but will be unable to maintain his role as co-host of a daily show.
Robert Flores has been a studio host for MLB Network and NHL Network since 2016. Prior to joining the two networks, Flores worked for ESPN since 2005, beginning work as a SportsCenter anchor in 2007. Whether or not Flores’ new role with MLB Network will alter his contributions to the NHL Network was not discussed.
MLB Central is a three-hour morning show airing weekdays during the Major League Baseball season. Flores will join current co-hosts Mark DeRosa and Lauren Shehadi for the program’s third season.
