Chris Berman’s previously hyped “part-time return” to ESPN is going to be a lot more part-time than the network was planning. As of now, Berman will participate in five “Berman Blasts” for Friday editions of SportsCenter.
The Berman Blast is a four to five minute segment highlighting some of the NFL’s greatest rivalries. All of them will be pre-recorded to fit into Berman’s schedule.
Both Berman and ESPN are leaving the door open for further negotiations, but as of now, those Berman Blasts will be Boomer’s only presence on SportsCenter this football season. That is a big step down from the Sunday Night hits and a return of “The 2 Minute Drill” that ESPN was initially hoping for.
Berman is still scheduled to do some pregame work for Monday Night Football. His other NFL appearances will include special editions of NFL Primetime following the conference championship games and Super Bowl LIII. He will also call and MLB divisional series and appear at the next ESPYs.
