Army fell short in its bid to upset Oklahoma over the weekend. The biggest story to come out of the game wasn’t about the Black Knights taking the 5th ranked Sooners to overtime. It was instead about some dude on Twitch.
As part of the agreement with the University of Texas to launch the Longhorn Network, the Big 12 conference allows all of its members to control the media rights for one non-conference game per season. Oklahoma agreed to terms with Fox a number of years that created the Sooner Sports Network. It consists mostly of one football game a year that Fox can do whatever it wants with, and since Oklahoma fans have shown an absurd willingness to pay $54.99 for what usually turns out to be a bad game, that game usually goes on pay-per-view. That is what happened Saturday night.
A Twitch user imugentsukuyomi streamed the game (illegally, of course) at one point, became the platform’s 2nd most popular channel. At its peak, the stream had more than 32,000 viewers.
The highlight may not have been Army tying the game or Oklahoma winning in overtime. According to Twitter, it was when the Twitch user decided to show his viewers his feet.

The Twitch-cast earned rave reviews for imugentsukuyomi’s commentary, prompting Everyday Should be Saturday’s Spencer Hall to remark “What is the gulf between professional broadcasters and some redneck on the internet calling a game? ESPN, I have some bad news. You’re overpaying some people.”
As of Monday, the imugentsukuyomi Twitch stream is offline. One assumes it is for violating the site’s copyright policy.
