Milwaukee is getting another sports station on the FM dial. On November 1, Good Karma Brands will take over Scripps’ stations in the city. One of the first orders of business will to turn country station WKTI into a simulcast of 540 ESPN.
Craig Karmazin, owner of Good Karma Brands called the move “a natural evolution of our sports marketing, event and broadcast business in Wisconsin.” The other station Good Karma acquired in the deal, News/Talk outlet WTMJ is the flagship station of the NBA’s Bucks and Major League Baseball’s Brewers. It is also the Milwaukee affiliate of the Green Bay Packers. Karmazin says combining WTMJ’s sports partnerships with a Sports station on the FM dial “will provide new and exciting ways for fans to stay close to their favorite teams and provide new ways for our marketing partners to engage with Wisconsin sports fans.”
The format flip does unfortunately mean WKTI’s air staff is out. They include PD Ryan Wild, MD and mid day host Karen Dalessandro, and morning personality Carol Vonn.
