You can likely get your money back if you paid $19.99 to watch The Match: Tiger vs. Phil on Black Friday. A technical glitch allowed people to watch the match for free on Turner’s B/R Live app. As a result, some people that paid for the match complained that they were ripped off. Several TV providers including AT&T, Comcast, and Spectrum issued refunds to their customers. Comcast took the extra step of calling on Turner to do the same.
Comcast will proactively issue a $19.99 credit to any Xfinity TV customer who purchased ‘The Match’ pay-per-view event. We hope Turner and Bleacher Report will do the same given that the event was made available by them for free on The Bleacher Report website
Turner eventually came around. ESPN’s Darren Rovell Tweeted that pressure from other content providers weighed heavily in the decision. The company issued a statement to USA Today saying that it stands by its decision to eventually make The Match free on B/R Live, but acknowledges that anyone that had previously paid is owed a refund.
“This did not impact the live streaming of the competition and fans were treated to an event that was both engaging and memorable,” the Turner Sports statement read. “Unfortunately, the pre-match technical issue did occur, and we will offer fans who purchased the event on B/R Live a refund.”
