According to a report from CNBC’s David Faber, Liberty Media, owners of the Atlanta Braves and Sirius XM, have entered the bidding for the 22 regional sports networks that the Walt Disney Company is being forced to sell as part of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets.
The report says the sale is expected to close within the next few weeks and competition for the properties isn’t as stiff as once thought. Faber says that Major League Baseball is the only other serious bidder. Apollo Global Management and Sinclair Broadcast Group are both said to have withdrawn from the process.
The final sale will include 21 RSNs. The New York Yankees will reacquire controlling interest in the YES Network.
