DAZN is doing something interesting with its 40 Days series. The original incarnation was produced to promote Canelo Alvarez’s victory over Daniel Jacobs, with Lebron James and Maverick Carter at the helm. The next edition will see new producers following a new fight.
Jay Z’s Roc Nation and rapper Meek Mill are partnering to produce 40 Days: Joshua-Ruiz in the lead up to Anthony Joshua’s match against Andy Ruiz on June 1st.
This version will also get a unique presentation. DAZN will not carry any episodes of the series this time around. Instead it will partner with Roc Nation and Meek Mill on the production of four six-minute episodes that will premier on Mill’s YouTube and Instagram pages in the two weeks leading up to the fight. The fifth and final episode will follow the path of the original 40 Days series and premier on NBC Sports Network and several regional sports networks across the country.
“It’s a series which is meant to let creative people be creative,” Jamie Horowitz, DAZN’s Executive VP of content, told The Hollywood Reporter. “We are excited to have Meek Mill tell the story of Anthony Joshua’s first fight in America through his unique lens.”
The June 1st fight against Andy Ruiz will be the second in an eight-fight, $1 billion deal Anthony Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn signed with DAZN in September. His four titles and undefeated record will be on the line in the match.
