Kevin Kietzman Suspended By Union Broadcasting

One day after his remarks about Andy Reid’s track record with discipline caused a stir in Kansas City, Kevin Kietzman is off the air at WHB. Union Broadcasting issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon saying that Kietzman will not his his afternoon show while the company investigates the matter.

On the Monday edition of Between the Lines, Kietzman referenced the Chiefs’ coach’s family life when making the point that the Chiefs shouldn’t be so quick to welcome back embattled receiver Tyreek Hill.

“Andy Reid does not have a great record of fixing players, he doesn’t.  Discipline is not his thing, it did not work out particularly well in his family life and that needs to be added to this as we’re talking about the Chiefs.  He wasn’t real great at that either.  He’s had a lot of things go bad on him, family and players,” Kietzman said on the show.

Many fans and media members jumped on the host, assuming he was referencing Reid’s son Garrett, who died of a heroine overdose in 2012. Kietzman insisted that he didn’t even think about that, and was referencing Reid hiring his sons as assistants even after they were both arrested and convicted of dealing drugs.

“We take Kevin’s comments and those of all on-air staff seriously,” Union Broadcasting’s statement on the matter read. “Kevin’s comments were clearly not to his or our standards. Please know that we will take necessary appropriate actions.”

Kietzman also serves as WHB’s vice president and sports director. The statement concluded with Union’s apologies to the Chiefs, the Reid family, and WHB listeners.
