Mark Sturgis Returns Home From Hospital

After suffering a stroke Tuesday morning, ESPN Upstate radio host Mark Sturgis is home, recovering.  Short term rehab in a nursing home was a possibility for Sturgis, but he was instead able to return home after being released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.

According to Sturgis’ wife Teresa, the stroke was caused by a thin blood vessel in his brain, with an MRI showing the radio host had multiple mini strokes that went previously undiagnosed.

Sturgis will begin physical therapy on Friday, and along with rest and medicine, he’s expected to make a full recovery.  There’s still no timetable for when the host of Straight Up with Sturg, which broadcasts weekdays from 4 – 7pm in Greenville and Spartanburg, South Carolina might return to his show on the ESPN Upstate network.

Sturgis sports radio career began in the early 2000’s, eventually joining Entercom’s ESPN Upstate in 2014, shortly after the network’s inception.  Named the 2016 South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association, Sturgis has been a fixture on radio in the market and a big reason for the growth of ESPN Upstate.
