Mason & Ireland Moving to Afternoons as Part of Lineup Changes at ESPN LA 710

For the second year in a row, ESPNLA 710AM is shuffling their weekday lineup just before the fall quarter begins.  At the forefront of ESPN LA’s changes is one of sports radio’s longest tenured shows, Mason and Ireland which will move to afternoon drive.  The new lineup goes into effect on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Steve Mason and John Ireland will replace Jorge Sedano who hosted afternoon drive for one year.  Last September, Sedano moved from mornings to afternoons, but now the popular host is heading to evenings from 6:30p-9p.  With Sedano and Mason and Ireland moving to later timeslots, ESPN Los Angeles will pick up the nationally syndicated Will Cain Show from noon – 3pm.

Sedano, who joined ESPN Los Angeles in 2016, is expected to be featured on the station’s Lakers coverage, along with continuing to contribute to NBA programming on television for ESPN.  ESPN 710 LA is the flagship radio station of the Lakers.

“We are excited to further strengthen an already powerful talk lineup by moving Mason & Ireland to afternoon drive and capitalizing on the momentum of The Will Cain Show,” said Scott McCarthy, VP/GM of ESPNLA 710, in a press release. “These two shows plus Keyshawn, LZ and Travis, LA’s only local sports morning show, and the always compelling Stephen A. Smith will keep listeners updated on local and national major sports stories. Jorge Sedano’s NBA expertise will prepare listeners for the night’s action and takes on greater importance with the high expectations surrounding the Lakers and Clippers.”

ESPN LA’s longtime duo and new afternoon show, Mason and Ireland first teamed up in 1994 on San Diego’s XTRA 690.  After five years together, Mason moved to New York City to join WNEW.  Mason and Ireland reunited on KSPN 710 in Los Angeles from 2003 – 07, and again in 2008 where they’ve since remained.  Both hosts signed multiyear extensions with the radio station earlier this summer.

ESPN LA’s new lineup:

6 – 10am         The Morning Show with Keyshawn, LZ and Travis
10am – Noon  The Stephen A. Smith Show
Noon – 3pm   The Will Cain Show
3 – 6:30pm     Mason & Ireland
6:30 – 9pm     The Sedano Show

  1. NO!!, No more national shows, bring back Thompson and Trudell, leave Mason and Ireland where they are. ESPN you have now lost me from 10-3

    • Wow! Mason and Ireland in there now old time slot was why I listened to 710. Now you just pushed me off AM. Will Cain is terrible and especially for LA. Bad Move. You lost a listener for sure.

  2. Stephen A. Smith is horrible. Will Cain and his wall-to-wall coverage of the Cowboys and Big 12 football is worthless in LA. That’s a giant hole in LA sports talk on ESPN from 10am – 3pm. Goodbye 710 hello 570.

  3. NO!!! Will Cain flat out stinks! Watch the ratings go down as now no one is going to listen at 12 noon to Cain. Plus, wondering how many shows Ireland will miss with the new time slot so close to the Lakers game.

  4. Cain show not fantastic, but the real win here is getting Sedano off the afternoon drive. Rarely do I agree with anything he says and the ad nauseam Laker talk was just exhausting (e.g. having lifeless Byron Scott on every week to talk hypothetical LeBron/Laker situations). Good to have M&I on at the same time as PMS now.

  5. You guys lost me from 10-3pm. Bring back Thompson and Trudell! I can’t stand Stephen A and Will Cain sucks. Now I’m looking to fill my time from 10-3pm will driving.

  6. Well good bye 12-3 , Will Cain is worse than a toothache, time to move over to KLAC for Roggin and Rodney. Should have left Mason / Ireland alone.

  7. This is the worse move! You need to move M & I back, with Ireland doing his Laker job he will be out at least half the week. Cain sucks!

  8. Well… looks like AM 570 is getting my lunch time tune in – the Will Cain show is AWFUL. My lunch breaks just got worse, bad move ESPN.
