Tuesday night, Inside the NBA analyst, Charles Barkley allegedly told a female reporter, “I don’t hit women but if I did I would hit you.”
According to the alleged target, Axios reporter Alexi McCammond, the incident occurred at a campaign event, unaffiliated with Barkley’s employer Turner Sports. McCammond recounted the off the record conversation on Twitter. “It was all because [Barkley] came in talking about how he loves [Governor] Deval Patrick, and once someone from [Mayor] Pete’s [Buttigieg] campaign came around he said he loved Pete and I reminded him he previously said he was a Deval fan,” the reporter wrote.
According to McCammond, Barkley followed the alleged threat by telling her she “couldn’t take a joke.” McCammond provided a picture of Barkley at the event.
In response to McCammond’s Twitter thread, others joined the conversation to highlight previous abusive comments by Barkley which have occurred far too often.
It’s fair to expect a statement soon from Barkley and his employer, Turner Sports.
