ESPN college football reporter Edward Aschoff passed away on Christmas Eve. The day was also his 34th birthday. His death came after a brief battle with pneumonia.
Friends and colleagues from across the sports media world contributed memorials on social media. ESPN reported Aschoff’s death during its broadcast of the SoFi Hawai’i Bowl.
Clay Helton opened his press conference on Tuesday by acknowledging Aschoff’s death.
“Very surprising. Wish nothing but the best for his family,” the USC head coach said. “Our condolences go out. He was nothing but first class to this organization and always to me. Ed, you’ll be missed.”
Edward Aschoff is survived by his fiancée Katy. The couple was set to be wed in New Orleans in April.
