Dr. Anthony Fauci Joins Pardon My Take

In an effort to reach a younger audience, Dr. Anthony Fauci went on Barstool’s popular podcast Pardon My Take to discuss Covid-19 and what precautions millennial should be taking to help slow its spread.

Fauci is the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease and a member of President Trump’s Coronavirus Task Force. He told Big Cat and PFT that it was the younger population’s duty to “protect the vulnerable” during this time.

“When an individual who is young gets infected, and either has no symptoms at all, or even mild symptoms, that individual will continue the virus spreading in the community,” Fauci said. “You might inadvertently, even though you feel that you are invulnerable… even if you are doing very well, you have to be a very important part of our national effort to contain the outbreak.”

The doctor reiterated the danger in people dismissing coronavirus and Covid-19 as something that only effects the elderly. “We really do need you, this isn’t something that can be successful without you,” he said, addressing Pardon My Take’s young audience directly.

PFT Commenter proposed a scenario. He asked what the right course of action was for a young person, living with roommates, who starts to develop a cough and a low grade fever.

“Do you recommend that they go in and they get themselves tested?” he asked. “Or for now, do you recommend that they kind of stay in place and see if it gets any worse and reduce their contact with the outside world?”

“Stay home. Call up your healthcare provider – be that a physician, a healthcare worker or a clinic, inform them of what’s going on,” recommended in lieu of people running out to get tested. “Don’t go out. You don’t want to go to the emergency room, you don’t want to go to a clinic – and we’ll have much more accessibility of this as the days and weeks go by.”
