Broadcasters Discuss Covid-19 Experiences

Former Cardinals centerfielder and current Fox Sports Midwest analyst Jim Edmonds has been hospitalized. He tested positive for Covid-19. He shared the news over the weekend in an Instagram story.

“Held off as long as I could. I thought I was tough enough to get through. This virus is no joke,” he wrote as the caption to a photo of himself in a hospital bed on Saturday.

He was released later in the evening and posted a message thanking fans for their well wishes and encouraging them all to take the threat of the coronavirus very seriously.

“I’m home, I’m feeling pretty good and I’m doing the best I can to rest up. Thank you again everyone,” he wrote.

Edmonds was the second sportscaster to share his experience with Covid-19 over the weekend. In Canada, Ottawa Senators’ radio analyst Gord Wilson recently spoke to The Ottawa Sun about his experience with the disease.

Wilson says he has been quarantined in his bedroom to avoid prolonged contact with his wife. He is one of three passengers on the Senators’ flight during a West Coast road trip earlier in the month to contract the virus.

“It’s a flu like nothing I’ve ever had,” Wilson told the paper. “We’ve all had the flu and we’ve all had bad colds. This is completely different … completely different. It grips you.”

Wilson is hopeful he will feel better soon, but so far hasn’t experienced consistent improvement.

“Public health told me the virus sticks around. It’s not been fun.”
