A lot of networks are re-airing classic games as sports takes a hiatus during the coronavirus pandemic. It can be hard to stand out from the crowd when everyone is relying on nostalgia to draw eyeballs. Sportsnet is hoping a healthy dose of community sets it apart from the pack.
The network is presenting digital watch parties on its Facebook and YouTube pages. The events feature classic Raptors and NHL games with a twist. Every game has its own hosts and celebrity guests.
Toronto’s win in game 7 of last year’s NBA Eastern Conference Finals is first up. The game will be hosted by Danielle Michaud, Faizal Khamisa, and Donnovan Bennett. They will comment on the game live as they watch along with fans.
Plenty of former Raptors will join the party too. Jerome Williams, Alvin Williams, Matt Bonner, Popeye Jones, Tracy Murray, and Leo Rautins are all scheduled to appear.
The first Sportsnet Digital Watch Party begins Tuesday night at 8 pm Eastern.
