The Central Texas Food Bank is experiencing a 200% increase in demand right now. The Austin Radio Network stepped up this week and did its part to help restock the food bank’s shelves.
104.9 the Horn and sister country outlet KOKE aired a radiothon from Sunday until Tuesday promoting the food bank’s “Buy a Box” food drive. Listeners were asked to pay $30 for a 28-pound box of food. The boxes contained 23 meals each.
Bucky Godbolt of The Horn’s Bucky & Erin morning show teamed up with KOKE’s morning show host Bob Cole on Tuesday to end the event with a 2-hour simulcast. It featured appearances Longhorns football coach Tom Herman and Longhorn men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart, as well as County Commissioner Jeff Travillion. The total number of boxes sold during the radiothon was not available as of Wednesday morning.
“Our radio stations feel it is especially important to raise money and awareness for the Central Texas Food Bank due to the ever growing need in our area,” Austin Radio Network operations manager Eric Raines said. “We are proud to put all the force of the Austin Radio Network behind this drive.”
