Former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Kyle Long is joining CBS Sports’ as a studio analyst on That Other Pregame Show for the upcoming NFL season. The 31-year old retired from the Bears in January following seven injury plagued seasons, but he’s already building a second career.
That Other Pregame Show launched in 2013, which was coincidentally Long’s rookie season in the NFL. Airing Sunday mornings from 8am – noon ET on the CBS Sports Network, TOPS is scheduled to make its season debut Sept. 13. According to the press release from CBS, Long will join co-hosts Adam Schein, Amy Trask and London Fletcher for TOPS, with no mention of Brandon Tierney who has been on the show since its inception.
“I am very excited to begin my broadcasting career by joining the CBS Sports family and the TOPS team,” Long said in the press release. “I look forward to bringing my experience and perspective as a recent player coming right off the field to the show each and every Sunday of the NFL season.”
It’s not Long’s first foray into broadcasting. After unexpectedly announcing his retirement from the Bears in January, Long joined Chicago’s ESPN 1000 a few weeks later to co-host David Kaplan’s Kap & Company for three shows. Long also appeared at Radio Row this year, participating in multiple interviews ahead of the Super Bowl in Miami, which signaled potential media interests.
The new CBS Sports contributor undoubtedly gets his football and broadcasting pedigree from his father Howie Long, a Hall-of-Fame defensive end for the Raiders who has been a gameday studio analyst for FOX since the network partnered with the NFL in 1994.
