Shawn Merriman Hosts Lights Out Podcast For FOX

FOX Sports has given a former NFL linebacker his own podcast. Lights Out with Sean Merriman debuted this week on the iHeartPodcast network. Right out of the gate, Merriman delivers a thought-provoking episode.

Merriman welcomes his former teammate Quentin Jammer to Lights Out to talk about athletes and depression. Jammer opens up about the moment he realized he needed help coming after he thought he had overdosed on sleeping pills.

“I was good and then all of the sudden in like, at one point in 2015, bruh, I just hit a wall,” the two-time Pro Bowler said. “And I didn’t think nothing of it. It’s like ok, it’s just a bad day, bad week, bad month and it kept going on. It went on for five years… I, you know, I hate to talk about it, but like, I literally got in the truck, left the house and I thought that this was going to be it for me. You know what I’m saying? And I had drank so much and I was taking sleeping pills because I couldn’t sleep. And I had drank and took probably too many trazodone, to where like I parked and I thought I was going to end it all and fell asleep. And woke up the next morning and was like shit, that could of went sideways fast, bro. And I was like that was it for me, like I needed some help.”

Lights Out has already earned praise for the 2005 Defensive Rookie of the Year. FOX Sports Radio Vice President of Sports Programming, Scott Shapiro, says he was quickly impressed by how Merriman took to the format.

“Shawne’s passion that was seen on the football field will be matched by his performance within this podcast. We are excited to share his unique personality and strong opinions across his wide range of sports interests.”
