One of the legends of the Boston Celtics franchise passed away on Tuesday. Tommy Heinsohn won eight championships playing for the team in the 60s. He also won two titles as the team’s coach in the 70s. Since 1981, he served as one of the analysts on the team’s television broadcasts.
Heinsohn called national NBA broadcasts as well. In the 1980s he worked with James Brown, Verne Lundquist, and Brent Musburger while at CBS. He also called four NBA Finals for the network alongside Dick Stockton.
Recently, he was part of the team’s TV broadcasts on NBC Sports Boston. He worked alongside Mike Gorman. In recent years, the network chose to keep Gorman in Boston and have Brian Scalabrine work as the analyst for road games.
Gorman tweeted in honor of his late partner saying “Celtics Nation has lost its finest voice.” Tommy Heinsohn was 86 years old.
