MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said the reason Fox News has experienced a ratings crash is because the network lied to its viewers about the election and claimed it was stolen.
“Just bald-faced lies,” Scarborough said during his show Morning Joe. “They knew they were lying to the viewers and spreading the lie to try to get a couple more thousand viewers. And it’s landed them in last place now.”
The segment started with Mika Brzezinski and Scarborough accusing social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook of developing algorithms that reward and foment extremism. The conversation quickly turned to television networks.
“The cable outlets, Fox, Fox Business, the new ones who promulgated lies, repeatedly, every day,” said Brzezinski. “Some of the hosts are being forced to apologize for lying to their viewers.”
Fox News has seen a significant decrease in its rating following the election on November 3rd, according to Nielsen. CNN and MSNBC are capitalizing on the excitement of a new administration and the unfortunate events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan 6.
