CNN is getting major pushback on Twitter after the network called for Newsmax to be taken off the air. While Fox’s ratings have suffered following the election, Newsmax has garnered support from conservative viewers who believe Fox turned its back on President Trump.
Supporters of Newsmax reacted harshly after CNN reporter Oliver Darcy hinted that Verizon FiOS, AT&T (which owns CNN), and Comcast should remove Newsmax from their cable systems.
“The folks at @CNN are just mad that independent producers are crushing them in ratings,” fitness company entrepreneur Marc Lobliner said.
Newsmax said CNN is clearly worried that the network has become the 4th highest-rated cable news channel in the U.S.
“Oliver, this is just wrong to try to get them shut down,” said Fox News contributor Lisa Boothe. “What kind of totalitarian society are you cheering on? CNN recently had to settle a big lawsuit for getting the facts wrong. Is this really a fair game to play?”
President Trump’s senior advisor Jason Miller called Darcy’s tweet “insane” and Former DNI Secretary Ric Grenell said reporters who pretend to be unbiased but are partisan advocates are “dangerous.”
Author and Washington Times columnist Tim Carney commented: “CNN exerting pressure on carriers to drop a competitor or two: Is this an antitrust violation?”
