NFL Can Opt Out of New TV Deals After 7 Years

The National Football League has inked new television deals with their respective broadcasting partners. It is also welcoming a new media outlet in Amazon, which will have the out-of-market rights to Thursday Night Football.

Despite these television deals being a decade or more long, Profootballtalk.com’s Mike Florio reports that the NFL has an opportunity to opt-out on a one-time basis with each of their new agreements. The report states that the league can cut the cord on any contract after seven years.

Furthermore, Florio adds that the NFL will undoubtedly use the opt-out clause for all their recent television contracts. As the sport continues to grow along with the additions of legalized sports betting and technology to enhance the fan experience who watch the sport at home, the NFL will look to rip up the television deals and double what these media outlets are paying.

With the NFL likely opting out of its deal after seven years, Florio speculates that it’s there when revenue will explode. Barring anything unforeseen, the league could double its asking price for its broadcasting rights, which these media outlets will probably pay.
