A Miami radio host returned the airwaves Monday and revealed that he has a neurological disease that attacks the fibers around his brain, according to the Miami Herald.
610 WIOD NewsRadio host Jimmy Cefalo, a former Miami Dolphin and fixture in the South Florida media market, dismissed any notion that he was suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“ALS is the same type of illness,” said Cefalo, adding multiple sclerosis is another demyelinating disease. “There’s no cure.”
“We don’t know what exactly it is, what caused it, what will fix it,” Cefalo said. “I’ll keep going as long as I can,” he said matter of factly. “One day I’ll just go, ‘Boom!’ Which is the right way to go, by the way, I’m convinced, after the last couple of months.”
Six years ago, Cefalo, 64, battled smoldering multiple myeloma, a precancerous plasma disorder.
Cefalo co-hosts South Florida’s First News with Manny Munoz. His broadcasting accolades include earning Florida Sportscaster of the Year five times.
