The Tokyo Olympics are about to get underway, and it’s all hands on deck at NBC as Deadline reports that NBC News plans to have “Today” and “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” broadcast from the Japanese capital.
Savannah Guthrie is already in Tokyo all this week for “Today.” She will also co-host coverage of the opening ceremony alongside NBC Sports’ Mike Tirico this Friday morning. Following the opening ceremony, there will be a special edition of the “Today” show.
Next week, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin will join Guthrie to anchor the show from NBC’s outdoor set overlooking Tokyo’s Rainbow Bridge.
Beginning Thursday, Holt will anchor his nightly news show from Tokyo on NBC’s waterfront set. The news host plans to profile members of Team USA and have breaking news from the Summer Games, with Japan’s ongoing struggle against COVID front and center.
Reporters and correspondents will join Holt during these broadcasts in Tokyo.
